Search and Browse

The Search tab is your entry point to the TopVault database. Everything in the database is publicly accessible. You do not need an account to search, browse series, compare variants, or view item details. When you are signed in, Search also connects to multi-select, goal, and trade workflows.

Tap the search bar at the top of the Search tab and type at least three characters. Results appear grouped by series, with each series shown as a collapsible section. Tap a series header to expand or collapse it, and tap any item to open its detail page.

The search covers cards and products across whichever collection type you currently have selected. Swap collection types using the selector at the top of the page. Options include Pokémon Cards, Sports Cards, Dragon Ball TCGs, and Magic: The Gathering Cards.

Filters and sorting

Open the filter menu to control how results display:

  • Sort by: Released, Name, Grade, Date Added, or Price.
  • Sort direction: Ascending or Descending.
  • Collected filter: Show items you have collected, items you have not collected, or both ("Either").
  • Type of collectible: Cards, Products, or both.
  • Bookmarks: Limit results to items you have bookmarked.

Filters apply immediately and persist while you stay on the Search tab.

Browse by generation and series

Instead of searching by name, you can browse the full catalog organized by generation. From the Search tab, navigate into the series browser to see all generations for your selected collection type. Each generation lists its series, and each series page shows:

  • The series name and release date.
  • A description of the set (when available).
  • Every item in the series, organized by edition, group, and variant.
  • An item count for the series.

This is useful when you want to explore a set rather than search for a specific card.

Item detail pages

Tapping an item anywhere in TopVault opens its detail page. An item detail page shows:

  • Card name and number within its series.
  • Generation and series links for navigation.
  • Edition (for example, 1st Edition, Unlimited, or Shadowless).
  • Variant information (Holographic, Reverse Holo, and others).
  • Group if the item belongs to a sub-category within its edition.
  • Rarity score calculated by TopVault.
  • Related items showing other variants or products that include the card.
  • External links to sites like TCGPlayer, Price Charting, or Scryfall where applicable.
  • Price report with ungraded market price, grade-specific pricing, and a trend chart with Daily, Weekly, and Monthly intervals.
  • Collection context: if you own copies, they appear here with the ability to inspect each one.

Multi-select

To work with multiple items at once, tap Start multi-select in the toolbar. Once active, tap items to check or uncheck them. A selection bar appears at the bottom with actions:

  • Goals: add all selected items to one or more goals.
  • Add: add selected items to your collection.
  • Bookmark: toggle bookmarks on the selection.
  • Clear: deselect all.
  • Exit: leave multi-select mode.

Multi-select is especially useful for building goals quickly. For example, you can search for a Pokémon character, multi-select every result, and add them all to a goal in one action. See the Collect Every Character playbook for a detailed walkthrough.

Bookmarks

Tap the bookmark icon on any item to save it for later. Bookmarked items can be filtered for in both Search and Collection views, making them a lightweight way to mark items of interest without creating a full goal.

Using Search without an account

The entire TopVault database is publicly accessible. You can browse generations, read series details, view card metadata, compare variants, and check supporting price context without signing in. This makes TopVault a useful reference even if you just need to identify a card or understand a print run. See The Database for more on using TopVault as a reference tool.
